Rates
I use a tiered pay-what-you-can scale, which allows families with different financial situations to access my services. You can pay me what you can afford, within the tiered options below. The first session is free, regardless of the tier you choose.
Note that there is a limited number of slots in tiers 2 and 3, so please be honest in selecting the option that best fits your needs (see the ‘Availability’ page for up-to-date remaining slots). This will allow those who would otherwise not be able to afford a private tutor the opportunity to do so. The descriptions are paraphrased from this article by the creator of this system.
- Tier 1: £40 per hour. This is my normal rate and what I would charge if I didn’t use this system. There are unlimited slots at this rate.
- Tier 2: £25+ per hour. If paying the full price would prevent you from employing me and the other two tiers honestly don’t apply to you, this is the rate you should choose. I can tutor three students in this tier.
- Tier 3: £0+ per hour. If you struggle to pay for essentials such as housing, food and child care, this is likely to be the tier for you. If your child receives free school meals, that is also a good indicator of this category. I can tutor two students in this tier.
I do not offer tutoring at weekends and sessions scheduled during holiday periods will be charged at my normal rate (£40/hour).
To simplify payments I usually ask for three instalments over the year by bank transfer, one at the beginning of each term. I am happy to discuss alternative plans to suit individual needs – pay-as-you-go, monthly instalments, cash, etc.
Cancellations
- No refund or rescheduling will be granted if a cancellation is made with less than 6 hours notice. A session may be rescheduled (subject to availability) or refunded if more than 6 hours notice is given.
- For online tutorials, I will wait up to 15 minutes after the scheduled start time before ending the meeting. If the tutee has not arrived by this time, no refund or rescheduling will be granted.
- I will offer a refund or an alternative time for sessions that I have had to cancel.
